Download: Schedule for August 7, 2022-May 19, 2024

Click below for YSIT's schedule of books written in, about, and from the borders of Ukraine.

We start with Isaac Babel's (1894-1941) uproarious tales of Jewish gangsters in Odessa's Moldavanka ghetto in the early 1920s (The Odessa Stories, 8/7).

We follow with his gripping vignettes from the Polish-Soviet War on Ukrainian soil of 1918-1921 (Red Cavalry, 9/11), which set a backdrop to events today.

Join us in the coming months for novelists' perspectives on life in the former Pale of Jewish Settlement, keeping a focus on Ukraine, Russia, and Poland.

Authors include Serhiy Zjadan, Andre Kurkov, Olga Tokarczuk, Oksana Zabuzhko, Maria Stepanova, Margarita Khemlin, Anatoli Kuznetsov, Elana Dykewoman, Debora Vogel, and Bruno Schulz.

Don't miss our guest speaker on 10/30, Goldie Morgenthaler, translator and daughter of Chava Rosenfarb, in a follow up session on her mother's short stories of survivors in Canada.

Note YSIT's new meeting day and time! The new day is Sunday. The new time is 3:00 to 4:30 pm, Pacific.

See you soon! Zayt gezunt!
